Books in a Backpack

Rams Rally for Reading!
Fall 2007

The new Book in a Backpack is a page-turning success in Ram Country.

“It’s a very positive program that allows students to see reading in a different light,” English teacher and reading coordinator Peggy Frew explained. “Book in a Backpack is a way for students to always have a book to read anytime during the day."

All English students visited the media center to select a book of their choice. Students are asked to keep the book in their backpack. In any classroom, students may be asked to take out their book for some reading time. To kick off the program, Principal Lippert recently ended 3rd period announcements with "It's time to take out your books, and everybody read!"

“The program gives students that don’t usually read, the chance to sit down and try something new,” senior Chaz Dagnino, stated.

“It gives me a chance to read a book not related to English,” said senior Ryanna Hopka, “I get to read something I enjoy.”

Junior Kelbie Layton stated, “I like the program, because I love books.”

“I like the program; it helps me focus on my reading,” sophomore Tanisha Crawford said.
