Policies and Procedures

All Students Need to Agree to the Fine Arts Commitment to Excellence.

Art 1-2

Students will explore a variety of painting and drawing techniques. They will study the art of a variety of cultures throughout time and see how art has influenced people and defined communities. The students will also examine the evolution of aesthetic choices and preferences. Using the elements of art and principles of design, the students will create their own unique compositions. The emphasis of this class is on craftsmanship and mastery of a variety of art media, including graphite pencil, charcoal, ink, colored pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paint. All supplies are provided except a number 2 pencil with eraser.

Art 3-4 through 7-8

The emphasis of the advanced art classes is on creative problem solving. The students will review the artistic styles that led up to the Renaissance and then study the many artistic movements that followed. They will be challenged to create original artwork in the style of a variety of these movements. The students will also have the opportunity to create work in their own unique artistic style and further develop their craftsmanship.  All supplies are provided except a number 2 pencil and eraser.

Grades

Assignments will be given a point value depending on the complexity of the project. Most assignments will be worth 100 points. Reading and writing assignments will be included in the overall grade. These will usually be worth 50 points or less. Final grades are based on cumulative points.  Work turned in after the deadline will be marked down by 10% for the first week and 20% if turned in beyond the first week past the deadline.

I am available before and after school to assist students with make-up work or additional time for assignments. Projects turned in after the due date will be marked down by 10% for the first week and 20% if turned in beyond the first week past the deadline. It is always better for a student to turn in the work late than to not turn it in at all. I will accept late work any time after the due date but prior to the end of the semester. All students are expected to do well in the art class.
