Policies and Procedures

GRADING CRITERIA:
All students will agree to WHS Fine Arts Commitment to Excellence.
District grading practices apply. Grades will be based on the overall quality of projects, willingness to learn new skills, growth in ability to conceive, complete & present projects creatively, participation in all aspects of the class including group and individual critiques, effort, preparedness, clean-up and attendance. Projects will be graded at the time of completion and posted on Infinite Campus.
Expectations of students are based on entry-level skills. Students have different degrees of skill, but each one’s experience is valued we will build upon what the student already knows. Each individual project will have a rubric specific to that project for grading purposes.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
In-class time is essential in this studio course. You are expected to be here every day. If you are absent you are responsible for getting the assignment that you missed. Grades will decrease by 10% each day they are late. All projects are to be completed to receive a grade.
STUDIO POLICIES:
* SAFETY: Students, will treat all materials, tools and situations with safety as the number one priority. Learn to use tools properly, keep your work area clean and organized and be aware of what others are doing around you. Become familiar with the equipment before using it.
* No electronic devices, CELL PHONE USE, TEXTING, VIDEO GAME PLAYING ALLOWED IN CLASS
* Be on time, ready to learn, in your seat, quiet, with the class materials by the time the bell rings. Students will not be excused from class unless absolutely necessary and only with a pass. Take care of all personal business outside of class time.
* All school and district policies are enforced in this classroom. Students are expected to assist in creating an environment that is conducive to learning and to protect the rights of all members of the class.
INAPPROPRIATE CHOICES WILL RESULT IN THE FOLLOWING CONSEQUENCES:
1:
Verbal Warning/Conference with student.
2:Teaching Time after school
3:Office referral/Parent contact.

It is my hope that students will learn to enjoy art at many different levels. With an open mind and a willingness to learn, anyone can be taught.

I promise to provide an opportunity for students to:
1. Develop aesthetic appreciation and creative ability,
2. Grow as self-directed learners, and
3. Foster fairness and goodwill.

Thank you in advance for your support in this effort.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. I look forward to working with you this year.
