Course Goals

This course will help the students develop reading strategies for the comprehension of fiction, non-fiction and functional text. The study of literature is continued through short stories, poetry, novels, and/or plays. Students are taught to analyze for literary elements, figurative language, and overall meaning.

Course Objectives

The students will:

Know and apply basic decoding skills.
Know and apply selected vocabulary appropriately.
Develop and apply Reciprocal Teaching Strategies.
Read and analyze fiction and non-fiction for overall meaning and literary elements.
Interpret signs, symbols and labels.
Effectively use oral and written communication skills.
