FCCLA Leadership Conference

FCCLA Represents WHS Well at State Leadership Conference

Washington High School was well represented this year at FCCLA State Leadership Conference. Alexandria Shapiro competed in Teach and Train, which requires the participants to demonstrate their ability to explore and experience the career of teaching. Alex competed against 6 other schools in Arizona and took Silver in this event.

Zuri Avila, Audry Avila, and Julissa Gomez competed in Focus on Children, which entails the participants’ planning, conducting, and presenting on a topic that has a positive impact on both the children and community. Competing against 18 other high schools in Arizona, these girls presented on Childhood Obesity and received a gold medal, with a score of 99.5%!

Genesis Avila, Maria Coronado, and Kaylee Gueringer also competed in Focus on Children. These girls presented on Fire Safety and received a gold medal, and they will be moving on to National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer.

Finally, Zuri Avila was named the new Arizona FCCLA Vice President of Program Development. This was a difficult competition and with 13 other candidates and only 8 positions, we are pleased that she was selected. She, too, will be attending National State Leadership Conference as an Arizona FCCLA State Officer.       FCCLAFCCLA
